Understanding Dental Bridges

There are many options available for replacing missing teeth, including dentures, partial dentures and dental implants. But if you have a gap in your smile that’s too narrow for either of those options to work, then a dental bridge could be the right choice for you. During the consultation process at our office in La Jolla, CA, Dr. Chad Dains will discuss how bridges work—and whether or not this kind of restoration treatment will suit your needs!

A dental bridge is an appliance that fills the gap left by a missing tooth or teeth.

To help maintain a healthy smile, a dental bridge is an appliance that fills the gap left by a missing tooth or teeth. A dental bridge is made of porcelain and metal, with the porcelain attached to two abutments that are attached to surrounding teeth. The dentist will make an impression of your mouth to create a mold for your new bridge. This mold is sent off to be made into an exact replica of your natural smile.

Healthy gums and teeth surrounding the gap are required to receive a dental bridge.

Oral health is crucial, the patient must have healthy gums and teeth surrounding the gap to receive a dental bridge. Dr. Dains works closely with his patients to ensure optimal oral health. If the teeth surrounding the gap are not healthy, the bridge will not last as long and may not fit as well.

Bridges may not be as effective at restoring function as implants.

You can also consider dental implants, which are more effective at restoring function than a bridge. Implants require no abutments or posts (removable hardware), and they have a lower failure rate than bridges. Implants are also more durable in general since they don’t rely on neighboring teeth for support. However, implants cost more than bridges do and require multiple visits to the dentist before you can enjoy your new smile.

If you’re looking to replace a missing tooth, a dental bridge may be an option for you!

Dental bridges are a great way to replace missing teeth and restore function to your smile. If you’re looking for a permanent solution that won’t require frequent maintenance, then consider this option. Dental bridges are more affordable than implants because they don’t require surgery in order to work properly. However, they do require healthy gums and teeth surrounding the gap (or gaps) where you want your new smile back.
